This year, the United Nations has chosen the theme ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,’ highlighting the urgent need to address economic disparities and empower women economically. Additionally, the campaign theme for 2024, ‘Inspire Inclusion,’ underscores the importance of diversity and inclusivity in achieving gender equality. The history of International Women’s Day dates back to February 28th, 1909, when the United Nations observed the first National Women’s Day. This was followed by a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. In 1910, Clara Zetkin proposed the establishment of an annual Women’s Day during the International Conference for Working Women in Copenhagen. This proposal received unanimous approval, leading to the first International Women’s Day being celebrated in 1911 across Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland.

Since then, International Women’s Day has become a global platform to raise awareness about women’s rights and advocate for gender equality. It serves as a catalyst for change, inspiring individuals and organizations to take action towards creating a more equitable and inclusive world.
